Becoming an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor isn’t just about shooting — it’s about mastering safety, leadership, and the ability to teach with confidence.
This workshop transforms skilled shooters into trusted coaches, mentors, and professionals who raise the standard on every range they step on.


🎯 Prerequisites — Your Foundation

Before you step into the Instructor Workshop, make sure you’ve built the right base.
These aren’t just boxes to check — they’re proof that you’re serious about your craft.

  • âś… NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) You must have completed the 6-hour Basic Instructor Training within the last 12 months.
  • âś… NRA Basic Pistol Course You must have successfully completed the official 8-hour NRA Basic Pistol Course.
  • (If you haven’t yet taken BIT or the Basic Pistol course, don’t worry — the full 4-day certification package includes it.)
  • âś… Firearms Proficiency
    This course is for firearms instructors, not beginners.
    You should already have solid gun-handling and marksmanship skills — you’ll be evaluated on safety, performance, and coaching ability during live-fire drills.

đź§  What's expected of you as an NRA Firearms Instructor Candidate

This is a professional-level certification. You’ll be assessed not only on how well you shoot, but on how well you communicate, coach, and lead.


👤 Eligibility — Who Qualifies

This certification is reserved for individuals ready to carry the title of “NRA Firearms Instructor” with pride and integrity.

  • Minimum Age: 21 years old.
  • Legal Eligibility: Must be legally able to possess firearms (no felony or domestic violence convictions).
  • Professional Conduct: Must bring a positive, safety-first mindset — the goal is to develop others, not to show off.
🔸 If you’ve already been teaching informally, this course will give you the structure and certification to do it the right way — with recognition and authority.


Basic Instructor Training (BIT)

You’ll learn how to organize, develop, and execute a complete firearms course with confidence, precision, and professionalism.

This isn’t a cookie-cutter range day — it’s a surgical performance lab for firearms Instructor-Candidates. Small squads, science-backed coaching, fast measurable gains.   • Instructor Roles & Responsibilities: Understand the NRA’s instructor standards, ethics, and how to represent the program with authority.

  • Lesson Planning: Build complete classroom and range lesson plans — from objectives and safety briefings to live-fire drills and performance evaluations.

Frequently Asked Questions


What are the Requirements to Attend the NRA Pistol Instructor Course?

  • Must be 21 and over
  • Must have not been CONVICTED of ANY felonies, No Domestic Violence Convictions, No CURRENT Restraining Orders,
  • Must be minimum a U.S Resident (green card), or Not be Prohibited from legally purchasing a firearm in the U.S


Pre-Requisites to Become an NRA Pistol Instructor?

  • NRA Basic Instructor Training is required for all new Instructor candidates.
  • You must have the Basic Instructor Training (BIT) within two years, or if it's over two years you will have to retake it again, which it's offered the same week. See Above schedule.
  • Must have completed the Basic Pistol Course or you may take the same week of training.


Where will the NRA Pistol Instructor Course take place at?

Venue: At Public Safety Institute's training office

Where will the live-fire training and live-fire qualification take place?

You will be advised on the time and date of the range qualification. It will be during day 2 or 3.

There is a cost of $60 for the range fee payable at the range.


What is the required gear list for the classroom?

  • Pen, pencil, highlighter, and a notebook. 2- or 3-inch binder.
  • Wear appropriate attire, NO sandals or open toed shoes, NO shorts, NO Sweatpants.


What is the required gear list for the shooting range?

  • Eye and Ear protection, if you do not own that gear, you may purchase and or rent at range.
  • Your personal pistol
  • 3 magazines with 3 Magazine Holders.
  • 300 rounds of ammunitions, ammunition may be bought at the range.
  • You are not required to own a pistol to attend this program. You may rent a pistol for use and qualification at the shooting range.
  • Make sure to bring an Outside the waist gun Holster for dominant side.


What happens if I cannot attend?

You can reschedule for the next NRA Instructor course.

All of our classes/packages, and courses are final, no cancellations allowed, and no refunds issued once enrolled in any course(s), class(es), or any of our training programs. If you cannot attend on your scheduled date, you can attend at another date or transfer course to another person.
